Quick Answer
Florida does not issue a statewide bartender license or require every individual alcohol server to hold a government certificate. Under the Florida Responsible Vendor Act, a licensed business that chooses to qualify as a Responsible Vendor must provide required training to covered employees. Non-managerial employees who serve alcohol must complete the employee course within 30 days after starting employment, while managers must complete the management course within 15 days.

Frequently asked questions
Is Florida alcohol training required for every bartender or server?
Not as an individual statewide licensing requirement. The Responsible Vendor Program is voluntary for licensed businesses. Once a vendor chooses to qualify under the program, it must meet the training and other requirements in F.S. 561.705.
Can I work before I finish Responsible Vendor training?
For a participating Responsible Vendor, the statute gives a non-managerial employee who serves alcohol up to 30 days after starting employment to complete the employee course, and it requires the vendor to supervise that employee in alcohol service until training is completed. Managers have a 15-day deadline.
Does a Florida alcohol training certificate expire?
F.S. 561.705 does not create a statewide expiration date for an individual training certificate. Participating vendors must still conduct a meeting every four months, and employers may set their own refresher or retraining policies.
